Our family deeply appreciates Leo’s ז״ל kindness, chesed, & זריזות to help our family & the community in countless ways. Leo brought light into this world with his special personality & exemplary midot.
Leo truly had a neshama of gold. He always had a positive outlook and I could feel his smile even when speaking over the phone. I will never forget when I was sitting shiva for my mother A"H and my uncle was sitting with me Leo made sure to bring a van full of local yeshiva boys to complete the minyan. He would call me erev Rosh Hashana and Pesach to say hello and fill me in on KG and former members. He always reminded me that his mother babysat for me. We are all blessed to have known him and have fond memories. May he be a Meilitz Yosher for all of Klal Yisrael!
There was no better feeling than walking into shul in the morning after flying all night from Israel and getting a warm smile from Leo. I was amazed at the fact that he became a Kol Bo. Able to lein any parsha on Monday's and Thursday's at the 8 AM minyan. We would talk sports and also whatever was happening in the KGS Neighborhood. May he be a Meilitz Yosher for KGS and Klal Yisrael!
Leo had a neshama of gold. He always had a kind word for everyone, and he always new everyone's hebrew name. I knew him from when we were kids, and we grew up together, and when I came back to KG years latereach time, he would fondly yell out my hebrew name. He gave his all to his mother, and to the Adas Yeshurun community. He call everyone his friend, and his friends will always fondly remember him. George Teitelbaum
While I only lived full-time in Kew Gardens for three years, Leo made an indelible impression upon me. I first met him, as many did, playing basketball. At first glance, he didn't appear to be a formidable opponent, but his first Lefty hook-shot immediately proved that he was. The ultimate compliment one can give a basketball player is to say he was a pleasure to play with, as well as against. Leo was certainly that. I relished playing with him, against him, but most of all, sitting next to him in Shul.
25 years after leaving Kew Gardens, sitting Shiva for my father, to my utter amazement, and eternal gratitude, Leo walked in to pay his respects.
A quarter century later, he was still guarding me. To my mind, Leo epitomized the best of Kew Gardens, the best of Judaism, the best of humanity.
Leo was an extraordinary person. It was always nice to speak to Leo because he had a good sense of humor. I remember visiting his mother in the nursing home and saw how loving he was to both her and all the other residents on the floor. They used to wait every day to see Leo and bask in his warmth. On Sundays we used to run a Talmud Torah program at Kew Gardens Synagogue. Leo always came at the end of each program to play basketball with the boys. He was very popular and they really enjoyed playing with him. We will miss Leo. He should be a source of brocha for all of us.
Leo was a special man who made all those around him feel welcome and at home. He gave of himself his whole life, All he knew was chesed. Watch over us Leo!
